Public Education

A huge part of who we are and what we do is anchored on our relationships with the people we serve.  We know the importance of your fire department being involved in our community.  We accomplish this through public education, attending community events, being present in our schools, attending sporting events, parades, birthday parties, and even inviting you into our homes for station tours.  Our philosophy is that we want to get out and build relationships in the community.  If you ever have to request our services on possibly your worst day, we want you to feel like people you know are showing up to help.

Community Risk Reduction

Community Risk Reduction (CRR) is a proactive, data-driven approach to identifying and mitigating potential risks within a community. It involves analyzing local risks, prioritizing them, and then implementing strategies to lessen their impact or prevent them from occurring in the first place. CRR moves beyond traditional reactive measures like responding to emergencies after they happen, focusing instead on preventing or minimizing those emergencies through targeted interventions.

South Carolina State Fire recognizes Fire Safe Communities based on your fire department meeting the goals in fire prevention, public education, continued education for department members, and data collection.  This program began in 2019 and we have received this recognition every year.

What to know when you call 911.

When you have to call 911 it can be a very scary time.  Someone you know or a family member are experiencing an emergency.  This could be a medical issue, a fire, or vehicle accident.  During this emergency your call will be received by a dispatcher.  They will attempt to get as much information as they can get to allow us to better serve you at the incident.  It will seem like a lot of questions and you will feel that the questions they are asking are slowing down responders to the scene.  This is not the case.  When they know what the emergency is and where it is, they immediately send out the resources.  The questions that you are answering are while units are on their way to you.  This is what you should be prepared to answer.

What is your Emergency? The answer to this question will determine follow up questions.
