LISH FD NEWS

Emergency services are out making a difference every day. Often times we respond to the emergency, mitigate the incident, treat the patients, and never really know the long-term differences made. We may run into someone somewhere in town and although the patient may not recognize us from that day, we remember and find joy to see they are doing well. We take the wins when we can get them. Every now and then, you have a special day when the crew and patient are reunited and are able to share some time together. We recently had one of these days.

On September 19, 2015 the Lady's Island - St. Helena Fire District and Beaufort County EMS responded to a farm equipment incident. The patient fell off of the tractor, was ran over, and was struck in the head by the bush hog blade. Units arrived on scene, provided care, and the patient was flown out to MUSC. Now 10 years later, through mutual friends Evan was reunited with the crew that helped save his life.

Jennifer Calcorzi was able to stand with Evan in front of County Council earlier this month to be recognized, but Jenn knew that the success of this call was a team effort and it was important to her that they were recognized as well. She arranged for the dispatcher that handled the call and the firefighters to arrive first on scene to surprise Evan during an interview with WTOC.
